Just Recently After News broke out on scrapping of Post utme, Oral and written Essay would Eventually be a Replacement, this was officially disclosed by Professor Peter Okebukola, the former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC).
He stated this in Lagos while speaking with the Press media that Nigerian tertiary institutions deviated from the initial agreement NUC had with Vice-Chancellors in 2004 when it introduced post-UTME.
He added that the 2004 model had a screening component which was agreed with all vice-chancellors to be through oral interview and essay.
According to him, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, explained during the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics, and other higher institutions in Nigeria that, ”all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school."
He also said Admission seekers are supposed to attain minimum cognitive competence in the relevant subjects in the discipline they wished to study; which is the aspect JAMB examination covers and also attain competence in written and oral English, critical thinking and ability to present ideas in logical sequence which is what this New type of Post-UTME would be all about.
